Baltimore Museum of Industry wedding photography

Leanne + JJ planned an incredibly thoughtful Baltimore Museum of Industry wedding for their closest family members and friends — his who traveled from Peru and hers who made the trip from the North Shore of Chicago. I heard so much about those plans and all the carefully considered details during the couple of times we got together before their big day that I’m not sure what I was most anticipating when their wedding day actually arrived. There were placecards mixed in with rocks painted to look like little bugs by the bride’s very artistic mother before she passed away. There were wooden shorebirds on each table carved by the bride’s father 35 years ago for an art fair with her late mother. There were books on each and every table to honor the couple’s love of reading. (Their engagement session, after all, was shot in a bookstore!) Leanne’s gaggle of nieces tossed petals and twirled around the dance floor and performed just as adorably as expected. There were foods from Peru and Chicago-style hotdogs and an ice cream bar and Orange Crush, the bride’s inexplicably favorite drink! And a forecasted snowstorm dropped big, fat, gorgeous snowflakes at exactly the moment when we were hoping to take some wintry photos outdoors. But I think my absolute favorite element of Leanne + JJ’s wedding was their shared enthusiasm for photography. She smiled as excitedly as I did as I put a new lens through the rigors of a wedding day and exulted in the exquisite light with which we were graced during her preparations. They ran outside into the snow without a moment’s hesitation when I told them I thought we could make some pretty cool photos in the sudden downpour of snowflakes. And their obvious love for one another shone through in their vows and the way they looked at each other all day long. Here are many, many of my favorites from Leanne + JJ’s beautiful Baltimore Museum of Industry wedding:

We started at the Lord Baltimore Hotel, where Leanne + JJ got ready separately for their Baltimore Museum of Industry wedding. Leanne paired brand-new, sky-high blue shoes with her late mother’s wedding veil as well as her wedding ring. JJ’s ring, meanwhile, incorporated two family rings. It was such a lovely combination of old and new. The groom’s mother just happened to take a seat in the most beautiful window light of all time to check something on her phone while getting ready. Meanwhile, a few floors away, JJ was writing draft after draft of his vows and getting ready as well.

The groom, looking mighty dapper.

A little something blue.

The bride, looking absolutely lovely.

I love this next image so much.

Then we were off to the Baltimore Museum of Industry for the wedding!

And then it was time for Leanne + JJ to see each other for the first time that day.

I love this photo that my talented friend, Jennifer Cody, captured from the opposite end of the room.

I love the snow and the winter so much that I can’t help but do a little celebratory dance when I get to make some pictures in the snow for my clients. I love Leanne’s enthusiasm here!

After a few family photos — including silly faces with the flower girls — it was time to get married!

The couple wrote letters to each other to be opened on their 10th wedding anniversary. Their officiant tied them up in a wooden box for a decade of safe keeping.

He did this a couple of times throughout the day. It was incredibly sweet.

Married!

We took a few post-ceremony portraits in the textiles room of the Museum of Industry — a location that felt especially appropriate for this incredibly crafty bride.

A few reception details.

A trio of toasts.

A pair of parent dances.

And lots and lots of fun and frivolity.

We made lots of jokes over the course of our time together about Leanne and my vast height differences. So we finished off the night with a couple of quick photos to capture it!

Many, many congratulations, Leanne + JJ. It could not have possibly been any more fun to work with you, your friends and your families on your wedding day!
