Gibson Island wedding: Kaleigh + Andrew
Saint Ignatius Church | The Gibson Island Club | Baltimore wedding photography | Gibson Island wedding photographer

I met Kaleigh + Andrew through my wedding clients, Grace + JD, whose gorgeous wedding at the Baltimore Museum of Art I photographed a couple of years ago. That’s my most favorite way to find new clients — through the enthusiastic recommendation of couples I’ve delighted in working with. I love when prospective clients have seen my work — or even see me in action at a wedding — and know that they want exactly that for their own nuptials. Such was the case when Kaleigh + Andrew first got in touch about their Gibson Island wedding. I looked forward to their big day all year since I had not ever worked at the Gibson Island Club but had seen many photos of the beautiful waterfront venue. And then I got my first glimpse of Kaleigh + Andrew’s wedding-day weather forecast. Like so many Saturdays this year, theirs called for rain, heavy rain and more rain. People do not book the Gibson Island Club with the intention of staying indoors all day. There is a sprawling lawn with a view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, waves that crash on the rocks and beautifully manicured gardens. But on this particular Saturday, there were puddles on the lawn, only the slimmest of chances of any break at all in the rain and such a fierce wind coming off the Bay that the flags flying outside looked like they had been stiffly starched to excess. These details seemed to not trouble Kaleigh + Andrew for even one millisecond. When I went over my ideas with her for a rain plan, she agreed that, yes, of course she and Andrew would like to duck outside for a few minutes if the rain let up at all and no, they were not worried about the wind and yes, she knew that we’d make beautiful photos no matter what. Because, most importantly, as she astutely noted, she and Andrew were getting married that day no matter what. That sentiment punctuated fabulous toasts and the good humor of their amazing friends and a beautiful ceremony at Saint Ignatius Church in Baltimore. It carried them through as the rain continued even when my favorite weather app indicated it should have stopped. This first image — which we shot during the approximately seven-minute break in the day’s downpours — is one of my favorites from the entire day. I love how happy they look. I love that you can see that the wind was SO strong that it was literally whipping Kaleigh’s dress around her. And I love love loved that when I showed it to them on the back of my camera, Kaleigh gasped, her face lit up and she asked, “Is that really what we look like?” Here are many, many of my favorite photographs from this couple’s wonderful, glorious, windy and utterly drenched day.

Kaleigh got ready for her wedding with a marvelous group of girlfriends and her mom. They all had so much fun together. It was a delight to photograph!

I love this next photo so much. I’m not sure why. But there’s something about the hands — and rings — of Kaleigh and her mother Kathy on the buttons of the wedding gown that makes me get a little teary-eyed.

The bride, looking absolutely beautiful.

When we first met and were looking at my work together, Kaleigh admired a photo of a bride twirling in her wedding gown. I was happy to photograph her own bridal twirls.

Then, we were off to Baltimore for the ceremony at Saint Ignatius Church.

The groom, looking very dapper, despite his Steelers cuff links. (Ha ha! I’m a Baltimore girl. What can I say?)

I love that the rain is so very visible in the images of the bridesmaids dashing from their limo to the church.

And then, it was time to get married.

My wonderful, longtime and mostly-retired assistant Lucas shot this next image from the church balcony and all the subsequent photos from the same vantage point.

I love capturing all these little glances and moments between my clients.

Married!

Oh, how I love this next photo of Kaleigh spotting her friend Grace and sharing a meaningful little look with her as she made her way down the aisle with her newly minted husband. So. Much. Happiness.

With the rain still steadily falling, we scrapped plans for outdoor photos at the Gibson Island Club and made good use of the gorgeous church for formal portraits.

Despite the rain and the significant wind, the newlyweds did not hesitate to make their way to the club’s porches for photos. And a little bit later, when the rain finally let up for a very short time, they jumped at the chance to run outside for a few photos by the water!

Look at that wind, whipping Kaleigh’s dress — and doing a bit of a number on Andrew’s hair!

A few reception details.

What’s better than a little flossing from a junior bridesmaid and a groomsman?

A first dance.

A trio of fantastic toasts.

A pair of parent dances.

And lots and lots of fun and frivolity.

Many, many congratulations, Kaleigh + Andrew. I could not have had any more fun working with you, your friends and your families!
