My favorite part of meeting Kara + Jason last summer to talk about their wedding was hearing them tell the story of how they met. They were at a Halloween party — she, dressed like a devil and he, in a 1930s mobster costume. They spoke for only two minutes. And Kara learned precisely three things about Jason. Yet that was enough to find him on Facebook and spark a flirtation. “We later realized that our office windows faced each other,” she told me, “and that I had been staring at the back of his shoulders every day.” They exchanged vows and rings in a beautiful ceremony at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront that was officiated by the rabbi who performed Kara’s bat mitzvah ceremony. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a bride look more elegant than Kara did in her very architectural gown on Jason’s arm in a midnight blue tuxedo. The wedding was infused with all kinds of personal details, from the rabbi’s personal recollections of a teenaged Kara to the lovely little desserts that awaited guests at their dinner seats because, as the couple put it, life is too sweet to not eat dessert first. It was nothing but fun to work with these two, their friends and their families for such a marvelous occasion. Here are many of my favorites from Kara + Jason’s big day:
Kara sent a big box of surprises to Jason’s suite for him to open as he got ready the afternoon of their wedding.
Upstairs, it was time for Kara to step into her wedding gown.
Everyone who spotted Kara for the first time in her wedding attire made faces like these. Truly, she was stunning.
Jason’s nervous excitement as he waited to see Kara for the first time that day was palpable.
After a few outdoor portraits of the couple and their wedding party, we dashed inside to escape the approaching rain and to shoot family photos.
Then, it was time to sign the ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract.
And after the veiling of Kara, it was time for the public ceremony that would be witnessed by all their family and friends.
I love this next image that my assistant Andrew caught of Kara + Jason as they circled each other in a modern twist on the Jewish wedding custom.
A rousing Hora kicked off the evening’s dancing.
Jason’s parents were honored with a krenzel dance to celebrate the marriage of their last child.
And there was lots of fun and frivolity as the outstanding band Milan 77 kept the party going until the very end.
Many, many congratulations, Kara + Jason. It was an absolute pleasure to work with you, your friends and your families.
