Savannah & Josh — Maryland wedding photography

We’re jumping around a little, going out of order, to feature a wedding with one of my all-time favorites families. It’s always a sincere honor for me when an engaged couple trusts me to capture a day as important and beautiful as a wedding for them. When one family hires me three times in 13 months to photograph the weddings of their three children, that’s a remarkable honor! Such is the case with Savannah & Josh. I first met them last October at the wedding of Josh’s sister, Jenny to Ernie. Just a few days after their wonderful wedding, I received an e-mail from Jenny and Josh’s mother, Kathy: “Thank you for such a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to see the pix! We  may need you again July 1st when my son Josh and his fiance Savannah get married. They’re just waiting to see Jen and Ern’s pix. We all enjoyed your style at the wedding.” A few weeks later, I received another e-mail from Kathy that left me humbled and dancing in my seat: “Savannah saw your blog of Jenny and Ern, and of course : ) fell in love with your pix. So could you change our ‘pencil us in’ to actually being our wedding photographer? This will be the marriage of our most handsome and brilliant son Josh, to his sweet fiance, Savannah. (Can you tell I’m his mom?) And believe it or not, Jill and Nick were engaged this past Halloween! … So could you also ‘pencil us in’ for that date too?” I knew from working with Savannah a bit at Jenny & Ernie’s wedding that her own big day would be wonderful. And it was, despite triple-digit temperatures and widespread power outages that left the groom and many local guests scurrying to hotels the night before the wedding! In a room full of their closest friends and family, Savannah & Josh seemed incapable of tearing their eyes off each other as they exchanged vows. And I still get a little teary-eyed recalling Savannah’s dance with her father and his subsequent toast. So lovely! I’m still getting caught up on my blog posts from this busy summer. So without further ado, here are some of my favorites from Savannah & Josh’s beautiful day. Enjoy!

Savannah’s dad was quite touched by this handkerchief that his daughter gave him as a wedding day gift.

This next photo was shot by my assistant, Lucas.

I love capturing little looks and glances like this during a wedding ceremony. There is so much love in this fleeting little look from Savannah to her about-to-be-husband.

Married!

Jenny, my former client, and her sister, Jill, my soon-to-be client, were more than happy to oblige my request that they stand in for a light test where we would be shooting family and wedding party photos.

A few portraits of the newlyweds. Savannah was an absolute trooper, venturing outside for some photos in the hot mid-day sun. I can’t even imagine how warm she had to have been in all those layers of crinoline and fabric. But it was definitely worth it for a few lovely images!

A few reception details, including another amazing candy bar from Josh’s mom!

I absolutely loved their cake topper, with firefighter Josh carrying his beautiful bride!

A lovely first dance.

A few emotional toasts.

A beautiful father-daughter dance.

And an Irish jig from mother and son!

And lots of fun and merriment!

Congratulations, Savannah & Josh. I could not have been more thrilled to work with the both of you and your families. I can’t wait to see you all again next month at Jill & Nick’s wedding!
