Melissa & Tim — Corpus Christi Church — Baltimore wedding photography

Melissa, Tim and I met a couple times to talk about their wedding plans. Since they both wanted a chic, urban feel to their event, they chose to marry at the beautiful Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore’s Bolton Hill neighborhood and then celebrate with a reception at a private club in the city. We mapped out a fabulous photography schedule: Their huge wedding party would walk with them from the ceremony to a quaint little city park nearby — shaded by tall trees with red brick paths and black wrought-iron fencing — for some casual photos followed by a quick waltz around Mount Vernon Place with just the bride and groom. The cobblestone square, white marble steps and historic homes there always make for fantastic wedding portraits.

And then their wedding day arrived, rainy and cold. Most of our photography plans were dashed. But the crummy weather couldn’t dampen the obvious joy that Melissa & Tim felt together that day. I know that sounds cliche, but it’s so true. It was written all over their faces. It’s such a joy to photograph people who are so very much in love and utterly unruffled by any kinks in their wedding-day plans. I loved capturing all the little looks Melissa & Tim swapped during the day and night. Though it poured right through the time when we were going to take outdoor pictures, I kept an eye on the weather out the windows of the club where their reception was held. We managed to scoot outside for some quick pictures with my trusty, gigantic black golf umbrella.

Here are some of my favorites from their day:

That’s Melissa’s mom peeking in from the left as her daughter gets her makeup done.

The makeup artist misted something over Melissa’s face to set the makeup. I love that you can see it in this photo!

A few quick portraits of the bride, looking oh so elegant and stunning.

Melissa, a designer, picked a sophisticated color scheme of deep plums and mustardy yellows. Fleur de Lis Florist created magnificent bouquets, boutonnieres and arrangements to coordinate with the bride’s vision.

Tim greets Melissa after her father escorted her down the aisle to the front of the church.

I love how they’re looking at each other here…

And how one of Melissa’s attendants is peeking around the other here to get a better look.

A few portraits of the new husband and wife.  All the elements of outdoor photos without getting poured on!

And off we went to the private club, where the reception was held. The chic, old-money setting of the club’s lounges and Melissa & Tim’s elegant attire called out for these photos.

Melissa & Tim hired the band, Hero, as their reception entertainment. Jon Goska led a pack of immensely talented musicians and kept the dance floor filled through the evening.

I worked to dangle the bride and groom’s rings just so on the curvy branches of one of their centerpieces.

When the rain finally let up, we headed outside for a few photos with my huge umbrella — which might have proved more of a hindrance at this particular moment.

The couple was spotted by Melissa’s mother and some of their guests.

Melissa really wanted a few images of her and Tim walking away from the camera to show off the back of her dress. I was happy to oblige.

Congratulations, Melissa & Tim. It was such a pleasure to work with the both of you and your families!

Love the ones of Mellisa and Tim by the church doors with the cross in the background.

Thanks! I was real excited about those. I turned off all the lights in the vestibule and underexposed quite a bit so that the cross window in the door to the church would be lit by the lights left on in the sanctuary. Yay!
