Melissa & Mike — The Belvedere — Baltimore wedding photography

Long before her wedding day, Melissa was one of those dream clients who is uber-organized and on top of everything and asking for my input on her schedule and photography locations. (Imagine that!) We spent just about their entire engagement session laughing and talking. She and Mike sent me a copy of their invitation — something I like to photograph amidst the other wedding day decor — before I had a chance to ask for one. She even paid me before her balance was due. That level of awesomeness just continued on the wedding day — and since! She and Mike happily agreed to walk six blocks when I suggested it might be fun to take some pictures at the train station. She did not express a single concern upon discovering that her dress had gotten a little dirty on said walk. (“When am I going to wear it again?” she asked instead.) She gamely kicked off her shoes and climbed onto a window ledge for some more fun photos. And she and Mike wrote the loveliest review on WeddingWire about their experience with me, all before they had even seen a single photo from the wedding! Their wedding day itself was nothing but joy to photograph. Melissa and Mike chose to see each other before their ceremony and the moment when they first saw each other — or, rather, when she finally saw him! — remains one of my all-time favorites. They are both so expressive that it was really enjoyable to capture the funny looks, the laughing smiles and the quiet little glances between them. On top of it all, they had a gorgeous fall color scheme, a fantastic 80s cover band, homemade MadLibs at their guests’ places in lieu of a guest book and — a first for me! — my engagement pictures on display on their cake table and on the CDs they sent home with their guests as favors! Without further ado, here are some of my favorites from their wonderful day:

Christine from Fleur de Lis always does amazing work. But I was particularly enamored of this bouquet with its deep fall fuschias and purples.

Lots of my clients have been ordering those darling custom hangers for their dress. But Melissa was the first among my clients to have ordered them for her mom and all of the women in her bridal party. She naturally wanted a photo of them all hanging together. So cute!

The bride, looking gorgeous.

Mike managed to completely sneak up on her. She didn’t realize he was right beside her until he actually touched her back. This next series of photos completely captures how they felt about each other that day. I love it!

Oh how I love a good reflective surface.

They have such a good sense of humor together. As evidenced by Mike’s girlish kick.   : )

Their fun wedding party.

And then, it was time to get married!

This next photo was shot by my wonderful assistant, Lucas.

Married! (The next photo on the right was also shot by Lucas.)

Such exuberance. I just love these two!

A few more quick photos before heading off to the reception.

A few lovely reception details!

A first dance — accompanied, apparently, by a little serenade.

Those previously mentioned MadLibs. (What a great way to give yourselves a fun ‘guest book’ AND entertain the guest who doesn’t necessarily want to be on the dance floor the whole night!)

I have no idea what is actually going on in these next two photos — suspender adjustment tests? punching lessons? advice for how to handle an unruly guest? martial arts practice? — but I can’t help but smile upon looking at them. I hope it was something fun that Melissa and Mike wanted to remember for forever!

I love everything about this next moment. And the great lighting, courtesy of Lightstick Master Lucas!

A pair of parent dances.

I also love a good ring inscription.

And lots of merriment!

Congratulations, Melissa & Mike. It was an absolute pleasure working with you both and your families!
