Melissa and Jimmy are great friends of one of my most favorite wedding couples of all time, Katie + Josh. So I was naturally predisposed to thinking they were fabulous. Nonetheless, they astounded me with how much fun we had during their engagement session. Through a series of snafus — a dead cell phone battery, bad directions and an only vague address for a romantic piece of urban art we wanted to use as a backdrop for a few of their engagement photos — Jimmy found himself walking through East Baltimore in search of his fiancee and a photographer he had never met. (Me!) A helpful man sitting on a street corner let him borrow a cell phone and pointed him in the right direction and Jimmy eventually made it to the first of our several spots for photos. Melissa and Jimmy had initially imagined shooting their engagement session at the fishing pier in Ocean City, which is where Jimmy asked his high school sweetheart to marry him — a request written out in seashells in the sand, no less! But when hurricane Sandy smashed the pier to bits, we instead planned on a spring afternoon of gelato and a stroll through Baltimore’s waterfront. After being rained out once, the rescheduled day of their March engagement session arrived windy and chilly. But Melissa and Jimmy didn’t let that stop them. They stripped off coats and sweatshirts and ate ice cream as if the temperature was 20 degrees warmer. Only the movement in Melissa’s hair with the wind whipping about hints at how cold it really was. (I literally went back to the gelato shop after our session to get hot cocoa!) As I clean camera gear and print schedules for their wedding tomorrow, I couldn’t help but share some of my favorites from their engagement session. And hey Mother Nature, I’m pretty sure they’re owed *perfect* weather tomorrow. Thanks!
