Laura & Geoff – Maryland maternity & newborn photography

Laura and I had some trouble finding overlapping availability on our calendars to schedule a maternity session — the first of four sessions she and Geoff bought to document the arrival of their first baby. We finally settled on a Friday afternoon just 10 days before her due date. We thought we were cutting it a little close. We had no idea!

She went into labor early, early the next morning. And after 30-some hours, baby Turner made his grand entrance into the world, obliging only one of his parent’s pre-birth requests. (Laura says she kept explaining to the baby in her belly that he needed to wait to be born until after our photo shoot. Geoff asked him to hold out until after the O’s-Red Sox game that Sunday afternoon for which he had tickets. Little Turner arrived 68 minutes into the 4-hour game.)

Here are a few of my favorites from our first two sessions together:

Laura, looking absolutely lovely. I can’t believe, in retrospect, that she was about to go into labor here.

Laura and Geoff, in the baby’s room.

There was just gorgeous light coming in the windows of their third-floor bedroom. I couldn’t stop shooting there.

Laura does a lot of yoga. It definitely shows in her fabulous posture with a baby belly.

I love how she’s hugging her little baby in these next few. So sweet…

We finally ventured outside, where it was — how shall I say? — not cool out.

Playing with their shadows.

My absolute favorite from the day: Laura, looking stunning and confident, ready to be a mother.

Just two weeks later, I had the pleasure of meeting little Turner, who was just 12 days old. He started out a little shy…

… but he quickly warmed up to his cute, snuggly little self.

It’s always such a joy to see the way new moms and dads look at their new little babies. Here, Laura is obviously already a natural.

Love love love the new baby fuzz. Oh. So. Sweet.

Big dad fingers + little baby toes = deliciousness.

Baby Turner in a darling outfit made for him by his paternal grandmother.

The happy new family.

Congratulations, Laura & Geoff. You have a gorgeous little boy. I can’t wait to document more in the first year of his life!
