A Corpus Christi Church & Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore wedding: Rachel + Matt

When I first met with Rachel + Matt, she explained that she had a very important goal for their wedding photography: to take back some wall real estate at her parents’ home in the wake of her sister’s wedding. I laughed so much in that first meeting with Rachel + Matt that I knew working with them would be a delight. They did not disappoint. When I shot their sunrise engagement session, we spent a little time talking about photography plans for their wedding day. I jokingly asked Matt whether he had ordered matching robes for all the groomsmen, mostly as a way of making him relax and smile while we were shooting photos. A few weeks later, when I asked in our final phone call whether there was anything else they wanted to mention to me for their photography that I hadn’t asked about, Matt started laughing. It turns out he and Rachel found the idea of groomsmen robes to be irresistibly hilarious. “So it looks like we ARE going to need a classic bridesmaids robes photo,” he said, “except with the guys.” Both aerospace engineers who met at Notre Dame, this couple went out of their way to make sure their mostly Notre Dame alumni guests were able to keep track of their beloved Fighting Irish as they took on NC State that afternoon. There were tasteful touches of aviation decor at the reception. And there was a dramatic moment when the groom’s brother dropped his ring during the ceremony — but then caught it on the bounce. It was incredible! It was nothing but fun working with Rachel + Matt, their families and friends. Here are many, many contenders for that wall real estate project:

Meanwhile, a few floors away, Rachel and her ladies got ready, too, while her dad hid out on the balcony.

The bride, looking absolutely lovely.

And then it was time to head to Corpus Christi Church.

I love capturing little moments like this for my clients.

Fast hands by the best man, who is the groom’s brother.

At this point in the ceremony, the light outside shifted and began streaming through the stained-glass windows on the side of the church, perfectly illuminating the couple’s faces. It was just beautiful.

Married!

After some efficient family and wedding party photos outside the church, we headed to the Four Seasons Hotel for some more casual photos in what, by then, had become a quite brisk wind.

Rachel’s dress billows in the wind here on the pool deck of the hotel, overlooking Baltimore and the harbor.

We ducked back outside for a few minutes at sunset to make some pretty pictures on the promenade in the last light of the day.

A few reception details.

Rachel’s new niece could not have been any cuter.

And then there was a beautiful first dance, a trio of toasts, a Notre Dame win, tiny ice cream cones and lots and lots of fun and frivolity.

Many, many congratulations, Rachel + Matt! It was such a delight to work with you, your friends and your families for your big day!
