A Baltimore backyard summer wedding: Tracy + Rob
Baltimore backyard summer wedding | Baltimore wedding photographer | Baltimore wedding photography

Tracy + Rob’s big day was one of the most *fun* weddings that I’ve had the privilege of photographing. I knew the bride’s father, Carl, an attorney, from a previous life when I wrote about courts and crime and the death penalty for the Baltimore Sun newspaper. Back then, before we all had cameras in our phones, I almost always toted a film SLR or point-and-shoot through life and I occasionally snapped pictures at weddings for friends. After taking a leave of absence to attend photography school, I also began shooting weddings on the weekends. The contrast between the two halves of my work week could not have been more stark: Monday through Friday, I spent most of my days in courtrooms covering murder trials and other horrible crimes. On the weekends, I photographed people who were so happy and in love that they invited their closest friends and family to celebrate their union. So it was nothing but joy to see Carl on the happy occasion of his daughter’s wedding and to work with Tracy + Rob for their engagement session and their wedding planning. In more than 11 years in business, I’ve photographed weddings on horse farms and engagement sessions with horses. I’ve photographed horseback grooms at Indian weddings during the barat in elaborate clothing and fancy saddles and I’ve even photographed equestrian-loving clients who just had to include their horses in their wedding day portraits. But Tracy managed a true wedding-day first for me. In a floor-length, heavily beaded, strapless wedding gown and sparkly sandals, she climbed *bareback* onto her retired racehorse LJ for a grand ceremony entrance. I had in my head that Tracy would walk or perhaps even trot to the back of the aisle before dismounting to stroll the rest of the distance with her father. But no. She full-on galloped across the yard of her childhood home to marry Rob. Guests actually gasped. It was truly a sight to behold. Once there, the couple exchanged rings and vows that they had written for each other, meaning Rob, a tech entrepreneur, read what Tracy, a talented writer, had written for him and vice versa. It was charming and funny and sweet and moving. Afterward, there were yard games and garden tours, dance parties and a sparkler exit so fun that the newlyweds ran through twice! Here are many, many of my favorite photographs from Tracy + Rob’s wedding:

Tracy got dressed in her childhood bedroom, which was still decorated with her equestrian ribbons and photos of her competitions with LJ.

The bride, looking lovely.

Tracy wanted a few photos of her and LJ before the ceremony. LJ wanted to make a snack of Tracy’s bouquet. Hilarity ensued. I love these photos.

Note the pink lipgloss kiss marks on LJ’s nose from Tracy and her mother, Sally.

Rob, looking very dapper.

A few ceremony details.

And then it was time to get married.

Married!

I love moments like the ones captured in these next several photographs. I love the expressions on their faces, I love the obvious joy at being declared married, I love the authenticity of it all. These little moments are what make me love my job so much.

This next picture makes me laugh every time. LJ is *so* over their kissing.

Bubbles!

A few reception details.

A first dance.

A trio of toasts.

A pair of parent dances.

A roaring hora.

A garden tour.

And lots and lots of fun and frivolity.

The Bachelor Boys band kept the dance floor hopping all night long.

Sparklers!

Many, many congratulations, Tracy + Rob! It could not have been more fun to work with you, your friends and your families.
